Someone must know who this is. As the photo is in with an old Ramsgate collection I would guess he was something to do with the donkeys that gave rides on the beach. Do you know anything about him?

As a boy in the 1950s/60s donkeys were kept in stables in Newcastle Hill, off King Street. In those days, poor, run down terraced houses lined the hill on one side (Nos 1 to 21) and there was still evidence of bomb damaged houses in the area. The donkeys would we walked down to the sands (we never called it the 'beach') each morning and back to the stables each evening.

This area was later flattened and Kennedy House, Trove Court and other modern housing built.

The man in the photo has been identified by his Great Grandson as John Todd. See "Donkey John" on this board: http://www.ramsgatehistory.com/forum/index.php/topic,83.0.html
